Learning how to run an impactful org.
MMBay volunteer leader Joy Sim is a Senior Manager at West Monroe, and joined MMBay in 2017 as a volunteer Mentor. Since then: Joy has mentored two students through their high school journey, kept in touch with them during their college experience, and herself taken on roles at MMBay as a Junior Class Mentoring Lead and most recently as Co-Chief Community Officer (an executive volunteer role in our org). Reflecting on her experience, Joy shares how our organization inspired her growth and choice to lead:
“Volunteerism has been a part of my life for over two decades, and I've helped to build nonprofits since I was in college. In reviewing all my years of experience with different organizations, I truly believe MMBay is the best-run nonprofit I've ever been a part of. The problem we are solving as an organization is clear and focused, and we are able to sustainably attract amazing volunteers who are well-positioned to support our students.
I joined the executive Steering team as Co-Chief Community Officer because I wanted to see with my own eyes what goes into running such an impactful organization. This level of commitment for a volunteer is definitely not easy, but it's also one of the most rewarding experiences I've had, because it's helped me grow in my understanding of leadership and service.”
